Kathleen Hope Betton-Small has had offices in Kingston and Mandeville, Jamaica since 1992. Her area of specialization is conveyancing, the sale and purchase of property (residential and commercial), estate planning, probate and administration of estates. Kathleen has over 30 years legal experience in England and Jamaica which contributes to her providing the most reliable and professional service.

Kathleen is a graduate in Law, LLB.Hons. from the University of Southampton England in 1975 and was called to the Bar, Grays Inn England in 1976. She became an Attorney-at- Law in Jamaica in 1977. Kathleen was Acting Deputy Clerk of Courts in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica from 1976 to 1977 until she took up the post of legal Advisor to the Agricultural Credit Board dealing with conveyancing, mortgages and advising the Board. Following this position she became the first in-house Legal Advisor to the Water Commission in 1978-80. She relocated to London, England, where she took up the position as Legal Advisor to the Greater London Council. From the Greater London Council she moved to the London Borough of Hackney in 1989 as an Assistant Solicitor where she under took advocacy in the magistrates and the High Court in matters relating to employment, social services, housing and Local Government Law.

From the London Borough of Hackney she moved to the London Borough of Waltham Forest as Senior Solicitor and subsequently became Deputy Borough Solicitor before becoming Director of Legal Services in 1990.As the Chief Legal Officer for the London Borough of Waltham Forest she had responsibility for 9 Solicitors and Barristers and 20 support staff. Her responsibility for legal matters included employment, contracts, land, conveyancing, housing, social services, environment and health, tribunal inquiries, Local Government Law and finance law. She was also Chief legal Advisor to the Council and also Head of registration of births and deaths in the Borough.

Kathleen returned to Jamaica in 1992 and established the Law Firm of Betton-Small and Co. and has been providing specialized legal services to Jamaicans in Jamaica and overseas. She is a member of Gray’s Inn and a member of the Jamaica Bar Association. Kathleen was appointed as a Notary Public in October 2016.
